Dani Pedrosa Dominated 2009 MotoGP Finale

Dani Pedrosa dominated and won 2009 MotoGP season finale in front of his home fans at Valencia as Casey Stoner failed to start after a formation lap crash. Stoner, who had won the last two MotoGP races and topped every practice session of the weekend in Spain, suffered a high-side on the warm-up lap and retired on the spot, leaving an empty space in pole position.

So it was left to Honda's Pedrosa to make his usual perfect start from the second slot of the grid and immediately open a gap over the rest of the field, led by Gresini Honda's Toni Elias and the Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.

Within four laps the nine-time champion and his team-mate had overtaken Elias, but Pedrosa was already 2.4 seconds up the road. From then on, the gaps between the leading four riders began to increase, with Pedrosa running away and Lorenzo unable to keep up with Rossi's pace. But with 13 laps left in the 30-lap race, with a gap of 2.4 seconds from the Italian, Lorenzo began edging closer and closer to his rival. The gap, however stayed around one second for the last three laps, with Rossi taking second at the flag.

Colin Edwards (Tech 3 Yamaha) had a fine race to fourth ahead of Nicky Hayden's Ducati, with Elias finishing sixth. But the best impression in the race was probably made by Ben Spies, who in his fourth MotoGP race as a wildcard and his first for Yamaha, finished a brilliant seventh, passing several riders including Honda's Andrea Dovizioso six laps from the end. The Italian thus finished eighth, ahead of Pramac Ducati's Mika Kallio, with Gresini Honda's Alex de Angelis completing the top ten.

Casey Stoner grabbed his second win in succession today with a display of absolute dominance in torrential condition at Sepang, where his Ducati Marlboro team-mate Nicky Hayden picked up a fantastic fifth place. A heavy tropical downpour just moments before the MotoGP riders were due to take to the track for the penultimate round of the 20009 season saw the race delayed by 36 minutes, but once the lights went out Stoner proved once again that he is a master of any condition. After taking the lead on the first lap the Australian opened up an advantage of almost four seconds by the end of the second circulation – increasing it lap by lap to over 17 seconds at one point as he stormed to his fourth victory of the season, becoming the first rider ever to win at Sepang from the second row of the grid.

Valentino Rossi made yet another case for the claim that he is the Greatest Roadracer of all time by taking his 9th World Champion title and 7th Premier class crown today after finishing third, behind Dani Pedrosa who put in a valiant effort in second and looked in danger of being passed by his teammate Andrea Dovizioso before he crashed out at 2/3rds distance.

Nicky Hayden also produced an excellent demonstration of wet weather riding as he guided his Desmosedici GP9 to fifth place from seventh on the grid. The American was involved in a series of breathtaking battles throughout the 22-lap affair, passing Loris Capirossi and Toni Elias with his trademark style and determination and fighting to hold off title contenders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Casey Stoner finished 1.935 seconds ahead of championship leader Valentino Rossi on Sunday to win for the third straight year at Phillip Island. Spaniard Dani Pedrosa finished third, while Rossi's Yamaha teammate, Jorge Lorenzo crashed out of the race, after tangling with American Nicky Hayden on the first lap.

Casey Stoner, celebrating his 24th birthday this weekend, started on pole position and led from start to finish, showing no sign of the mysterious illness that sidelined him for three races prior to his comeback in Portugal on October 4th, where he finished second.

"The whole team's done a fantastic job," Stoner said after the race. "We spent those three races away to fix myself up. It's definitely a big step from what we were in the middle of the season. It's nice to be able to fight for victories. Even if I didn't win today, I'd have had a ball."

Valentino Rossi's second place finish gives him a virtual stranglehold on another world title, putting him 38 points ahead of his nearest rival Jorge Lorenzo. Two rounds of the world championship remain - Malaysia and Valencia - with a maximum of 50 points available.

Jorge Lorenzo finished fastest and won Portugal MotoGP while Casey Stoner produced a stunning comeback ride to finish second. Starting the race from pole position, Lorenzo regain the lead after losing it to Dani Pedrosa and was unchallenged to the flag. Lorenzo's victory reduces the gap to championship leader Valentino Rossi's points to 18 points. The Italian could only finish fourth.

Stoner, who has missed the last three races due to an illness, was second despite breaking a foot rest. The Australian has spent the last two months back home undergoing tests after complaining of exhaustion and has been unable to train for five months.

"I had so many critics, saying that it was all in my head," the 23-year-old Ducati rider said. "I never felt so bad in my life. To come back like this is a really good start for us. I had the strength to overtake people and I was ready for the fight."

Lorenzo, however, never looked in trouble after getting back past Pedrosa early on. It is the Spaniard's fourth victory of the season and reduces Rossi's lead with just three races of the season to go.

"I was very confident before the race," said the Fiat Yamaha rider. "I was fastest in every practice session. It's fantastic and is almost the perfect race."

Ben Spies to Join Tech 3 Yamaha in 2010 MotoGP

Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd has confirmed Ben Spies will be joining Tech 3 Yamaha Team for the MotoGP Championship in 2010. Spies is currently second in the World Superbike Championship.

Ben Spies recently signed a two-year deal with Yamaha, which originally planned for him to remain in World Superbike for one more year before moving to MotoGP in 2011, but Spies and Yamaha together have decided to advance the move by one year. The 25-year-old Texan is currently just three points behind and has just two more World Superbike rounds to contest in his efforts to win his and Yamaha’s first World Superbike title.

“I want to thank Yamaha globally for their faith in me,” said Spies. “They have treated me like royalty. Yamaha just recently allowed me to rethink my contract for 2010-2011; I did sign for WSB for 2010 but after Indy I began thinking of the competition and my age versus waiting until 2011.

"This was not an easy decision. The Yamaha World Superbike Team crew and especially Massimo (Maio) Meregalli have been fantastic and it’s been great fun to put in a season together. I am hoping that I can give Maio, Laurens Klein Koerkamp and everyone else a championship to remember this year with me. My thanks also extend to ‘Infront’, the promoter of the WSB series, especially Paolo Ciabatti. I have enjoyed his series and this first year racing in Europe.

"Herve Poncharal at Tech 3 is showing his support by allowing me to come on board with my crew chief Tom Houseworth and Gregory Wood, my mechanic, who have both been with me since AMA days. We will have learning curves to overcome next year but I am up for the new goal. Valentino Rossi changed his Misano pole position into another MotoGP victory, in front of his fans on Sunday. On the back of a successful weekend just one week ago at Laguna Seca, Dani Pedrosa immediately burst into the lead as the race started, while the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Toni Elias tailed him through in second. Having been mobbed at the start, Rossi was forced back to third, while teammate Jorge Lorenzo slotted into fourth.

After following Pedrosa and Elias for some time, the Doctor eventually made his move for second, demoting Elias down the order slightly. Shortly afterwards, Lorenzo pushed Elias that bit further down the order, when he too made his way through for position.

By lap eight of the twenty-eight lap distance, Valentino Rossi thundered through into the lead and soon set about extending the gap to his rivals behind him. This move was soon followed by Lorenzo, who was determined not to let his elder teammate get away, and so took advantage of Pedrosa running wide to make a break for second.

Valentino Rossi will race at Misano MotoGP from the pole position after overcoming the best efforts of team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Honda's Dani Pedrosa for his sixth pole of the 2009 MotoGP season. The Italian was riding with a smiling picture of the donkey's face from the movie 'Shrek' painted on top of his helmet - a joke at his own expense for crashing at Indianapolis last Sunday. The accident had marked Rossi's first non-finish race since 2007 and means he starts round 13 of 17 with a reduced 25 point lead over Lorenzo.

After battling with Lorenzo for supremacy in the two free practice sessions for the San Marino Grand Prix, the Fiat Yamaha riders exchanged pole continuously from the 10th to 59th minute of qualifying - when Pedrosa suddenly burst ahead of them both.

But Rossi, having made a last-gasp pit stop, returned to take the top spot away from the Repsol Honda rider by 0.222sec, at a track just a few kilometres from his home town of Tavullia. Lorenzo failed to improve on his final lap and was left an unexpectedly large 0.470sec from pole in third.

Jorge Lorenzo took victory at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix to cut Valentino Rossi's championship lead to 25 points as Rossi crashed and failed to finish on Sunday's race. Lorenzo, who did not finish in the last two MotoGP races, came home nine seconds ahead of Alex de Angelis in second with home favourite Ducati rider Nicky Hayden in third.

Unlucky for Dani Pedrosa, he set the early pace before crashing his bike on lap four, leaving Rossi and Lorenzo to battle for the lead. Two laps later, the Spainard had gone ahead when the Italian also crashed and out of the race.

Dani Pedrosa did superbly to come back and finish in 10th place, and Britain's James Toseland boosted his chance of earning a new contract with the Tech 3 Yamaha team by equalling his career-best sixth place finish. With five races of the season left, Jorge Lorenzo has cut Rossi's championship lead to just one win's-worth of points.

Dani Pedrosa took the pole position on Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP this Sunday evening at Indianapolis by half a second and finished a second faster than Valentino Rossi's existing qualifying record. Pedrosa was the only rider to finish below the 1'40s barrier, lapping at 1'39.730 while Jorge Lorenzo secured second place and Rossi third with his very last lap after pitting to top up his fork oil with just a handful of minutes left.

Ducati has allegedly handed Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo a very generous monetary offer to ride for the Bologna team for the next two seasons, replacing the ill and questionable Casey Stoner. Reliable sources are now stating that Lorenzo and Marlboro/Ducati have come to a basic agreement, and that a deal could be announced at the Indianapolis GP.

The deal between Jorge Lorenzo and Marlboro has been agreed to in principle, with the finer details of the contract still being ironed out, Spanish paper, Motocuatro, reported. They also report that the figures being floated around would make Jorge Lorenzo the second highest paid rider in MotoGP, right behind current teammate Valentino Rossi.

Valentino Rossi romped to his fifth victory of 2009 MotoGP season in Czech MotoGP race to move a step closer to a sixth FIM MotoGP World Championship. Rossi increased his championship lead to 50 points in Brno.

The Italian Fiat Yamaha rider started the race on pole position ahead of team-mate and nearest challenger Jorge Lorenzo and the duo fought out a race-long duel before Lorenzo crashed out with five laps remaining to all but end his title hopes.

MotoGP News: Valentino Rossi survived a late crash during qualifying at the Cardion ab Czech Republic Grand Prix to take his fifth pole position of the 2009 season, in clear and sunny conditions at the undulating Brno track. At one of his favorite venues on the calendar Rossi took his Yamaha M1 bike round the circuit in 1'56.145 on the 21st of his 23 laps after a battle for supremacy with his team-mate and closest World Championship rival Jorge Lorenzo - who trails him by 25 points in the standings and was 0.05s behind Rossi this session.

Lorenzo looked good throughout the weekend and will be confident of pushing Rossi hard in Sunday's MotoGP race. Perhaps the Spaniard will take heart from Rossi's late crash as he seeks to keep the pressure on from the other side of the Fiat Yamaha pit-box.

In the absence of Ducati's Casey Stoner, who is on sick leave for three rounds, Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa could be the biggest threat to Rossi and Lorenzo, with the talented rider having qualified in third place, just under four tenths down on Rossi.

Valentino Rossi managed to stay ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and won 2009 German MotoGP in a thrilling late battle at Sachsenring circuit. The Fiat Yamaha riders were only separated by less than one tenth through the finish line, while Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, who also were in with a chance to win for most of the race ended up around three and ten seconds behind respectively.

The reigning champion Valentino Rossi made a fine start from pole position to keep the lead at the first corner, followed by Pedrosa, which made another super start from eighth on the grid, and Randy de Puniet, who crashed his LCR Honda a few corners later. Stoner took the lead from Rossi on lap seven, two laps after having overtaken Pedrosa for second, but he was not able to open up a gap on Rossi and was passed back by the Italian ten laps later, with Lorenzo also overtaking Stoner on lap 18.

With five laps of the 30-lap race left, the first corner saw Lorenzo taking the lead from Rossi and Pedrosa passing Stoner for third, after which the Australian gave up and was not a factor for the win anymore, while Pedrosa managed to keep the gap around one second for a while longer. Rossi managed to out-brake Lorenzo at the beginning of the penultimate lap, and despite a few attempts by the Spaniard to take the lead back, there was nothing he could with Rossi defending the line on the last lap.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa made a fine start on US MotoGP at Laguna Seca and held on to his lead and domination to win the Sunday's race. For most of the race Pedrosa maintained a couple of seconds ahead of last year US MotoGP winner Valentino Rossi who got close enough on the final turn to make a lunge. But what Rossi did wasn’t enough and the Spaniard took Honda’s first MotoGP victory since the 2008 Catalunya MotoGP.

Jorge Lorenzo showed a strong performance despite his shoulder injury and made a bold move on teammate Rossi for second spot. He almost lose control of his Yamaha M1 bike, but he managed to keep his bike on track. Lorenzo ran wide though and Rossi regained his second spot behind Dani Pedrosa.

Ducati rider Casey Stoner finished on fourth place in a clearly exhausting race for him and teammate Nicky Hayden recorded his best result on a Ducati by finishing on fifth.

Casey Stoner may have been fast in the free practice session at Laguna Seca on Friday, but the Australian Ducati rider is having a fitness problem after symptoms of his illness appeared much earlier than at previous MotoGP races.

Casey Stoner has been through medical treatment for stomach cramps and sickness after each of the last two MotoGP races in which he finished on third place. Stoner was still feeling nauseous after just an hour of speeding at Laguna Seca despite the medication.
